一篇好的SAT作文要滿足如下幾個要求：好的內容、好的論點與論據、清晰且恰當的舉例說明、段與段之間又好的邏輯關系、觀點鮮明與清晰及較好的英語寫作掌控力、有變化的句型與詞匯。考生要盡力避免觀點模糊不清、在議論文當中一會說對一會有說錯、語言表達單一、不以理服人、自以為是給人強加自己的觀點、字跡不清及文字太短。我們來看下面的評分標準。

　　SAT作文Essay的滿分為12分，考生要在25分鐘內依據試題要求寫出一篇完整的議論文。作文的字數沒有限制，但作文的篇幅約有一張半A4紙的大小。考生要用鉛筆寫作，寫滿作文規定的篇幅，一般要用500至700個英語單詞。每一篇考生的作文由兩個判卷老師打分，每個老師給的分數為1至6分，兩個判卷老師所給的分數之和，即為考生作文的分數。如果兩個老師評出來的分數之差大于一分，還會有第三位老師進行評分。
