　　這些動詞均可表示競爭之意。

　　compete :普通用詞，含義廣泛。既可指體育活動等活動中爭取優勝的相互競爭，也可指為了自己的利益與他人競爭。

　　Some 1000 athletes competed in 20 events.（約1000名運動員參加了20個項目的比賽。）

　　contend :指為戰勝或擊敗對手進行不懈努力，強調拼搏。也可指口頭上進行有對立情緒或嚴重分歧的爭論。

　　contest :指為爭奪土地、陣地、權力或榮譽等而展開的競爭。
