  Cloze Test

  A

Wow! What a surprise! I thought as the airplane rose suddenly into the air without my

  1

instructor. I was flying alone for the first time in my life. I had

  2

two years for this day. At that time, the

  3

of those who said I would never learn to fly seemed so far away.

I had a disability that made learning

  4

  . But I loved to fly. I believed I

  5

learn. I began flying lessons at the age of 14. At that time it was

  6

  that a person be 16

  7

he made his first solo(單獨(dú)的) flight. So I had to wait two long years before I could fly a plane

  8

. I used that time to master the basic

  9

of flying. I practiced straight and level flying, climbs and descents, and coordinated turns(降落和協(xié)調(diào)轉(zhuǎn)彎). It wasn’t always easy, and many times I would come home feeling

  10

and thinking maybe everyone was right—I would

  11

learn to fly. But by the next day, I was always

  12

  to try again.

  As I

  13

higher and higher, everything on the ground became miniatures(縮微模型). Houses, cars, and trees all looked like

  14

toys. The sky was blue and the view was incredible. That day was my 16th birthday, and I made three

  15

takeoffs and landings. It was one of the happiest days of my life.

Today, 40 years later, I am still

  16

. I have flown single- and twin-engine airplanes, jets, biplanes, and seaplanes. Now I

  17

other people how to fly. As a flight instructor, I stand alongside runways

  18

as my own students take to the sky on their first solo flights.

  I understand the

  19

on their faces as they emerge from the plane. Seeing them always brings me back to that day. I learn that no matter how many people tell you that you can’t do something, if you

  20

  yourself, you can soar(高飛).

  B

Always believe in yourself no matter what happens. This is a law of life that is

  1

for everyone. I think that if people want to live a happy life, they must believe in and accept themselves. You

  2

realize how easier your life becomes until you have confidence. You are likely to finish the work you

  3

if you say, “I can do this!”

  I have already

  4

believing in myself many times in my life. When I was nine I began

  5

piano lessons. I struggled with a little assignment such as completing a piece on the piano. I remember that I got very

  6

at that time because I had to play a song at a recital(演奏會(huì)) which was

  7

soon. I had a piece that I needed to

  8

. Coming home with a feeling of

  9

and poor attitude, I just knew I could not finish this

  10

. I sat at my piano and told myself that I would never get it finished. I couldn’t help

  11

. My mother found my tears and came to

  12

me. She said, “Whatever you do you should say ‘I can’. Only

  13

you believe you can is nothing so difficult for you.” Mother’s

  14

is an important life lesson for me. I did end up finishing the piece and the recital went

  15

. The important point is that you can

  16

anything you want to if you believe yourself and try your best.

Now, when I become frustrated in realizing the goal in life, I never

  17

or think about that I can’t do it. Always beginning with a

  18

attitude, I sit down and tell myself that I can realize my goal

  19

I put my mind to it. I realize that I should have this attitude towards everything I do. Believe that you can finish anything you put your mind and
