Homestay provides English language students with the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.
What to Expect
The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.
Accommodation Zones
Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones 2,
3 and 4 of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town centre as much of central London is commercial and not residential(居住的). Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger accommodation in a less crowded area. It is very convenient to travel in London by Underground.
Meal Plans Available

cereal(谷物類食品),
bread and tea or coffee. Cheese,
fruit and cold meat are not normally part of a Continental Breakfast in England. Dinners usually consist of meat or fish with vegetables followed by dessert,
fruit and coffee.
FriendsIf you wish to invite a friend over to visit,
you must first ask your host’s permission. You have no right to entertain friends in a family home as some families feel it is an invasion of their privacy.Self-Catering Accommodation in Private Homes
Accommodation on a room-only basis includes shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and often a main living room. This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the long-stay student. However,
it does not provide the same family atmosphere as an ordinary homestay and may not benefit those who need to practise English at home quite as much.

make up組成,彌補(bǔ);look through瀏覽;put off推遲;figure out想出來,弄清楚,故B項(xiàng)符合題意。
settle (oneself) into/in/on, etc.(使)自己舒適地坐下;sit是不及物動詞;sink可以表示“(尤指疲倦地)坐下”,是不及物動詞;lie也是不及物動詞,表示“躺”。
選項(xiàng)A、B、C三個動詞短語與題干中的“a conversation with a native French speaker”搭配不符合句意。carry on進(jìn)行,carry on a conversation with sb與某人進(jìn)行交談。hold on等一會,別掛斷;握住不放,堅持住;keep on繼續(xù)進(jìn)行,繼續(xù)下去;go on繼續(xù)進(jìn)行,但其后不可直接接賓語,要與with連用或構(gòu)成短語go on to do sth。
come up被提到,被考慮,(問題或困難)突然出現(xiàn),長出,發(fā)芽;hold up延誤,耽擱;cheer up高興起來,振作起來;light up(使)臉上露出喜悅或興奮。
If you don't do what I say,I will…
18. C 由下文可知,上面所說的這些只是孩子們所不得不忍受壓力的一部分(only part of children's trouble),此處表示程度的加深,所以應(yīng)用even so(雖然如此)。
19. A suffer from“受折磨”,符合句意。 之憂”;die from“死于……”;differ from意思是“與……
20. B 由such可以看出,本句是對上句提到的孩子們所遭受的那些恐懼(some terrible and illogical fears)做進(jìn)一步強(qiáng)調(diào),意思是說:這些恐懼(fears)常常出現(xiàn)在黑暗之中或他們的夢境中。
22. B 由連接詞while來判斷,前后兩句話表示對比,也就是說share their fears with other adults與face their fears alone相對應(yīng)。
