雙子電話亭
繼偉大發明家格雷姆貝爾1876年發明電話之后，美國的另一位發明家威廉格雷，又在1889年發明了世界上第一部投幣公用電話，并因此獲得專利。其后，格雷便把裝有投幣電話的小小電話亭，擴展到車站、碼頭、銀行和旅店，逐漸遍布城市的大街小巷。
雷峰塔式電話亭
After the great invention of telephone by Bel in 1876, another American inventer Greg William created the coin public telephone in 1889 and gotten the patent. Later Greg set up the small building to station, port, bank, hotel and graduated in all the country.

說起格雷的這項發明，還有一段小插曲呢。一年前，格雷的妻子患急病，他飛奔到附近一家工廠，要借用一下那里的電話，沒想到竟遭遇無情的拒絕。失望、憤懣之余，他萌發了發明公用電話的想法。經過一年多的反復研究、試驗，終于如愿以償。
For this invention there is an episode. One year ago Greg’s wife was ill so he run to a factory nearby to borrow the telephone but be refused. With disappointed and angry he had the idea to invent the public telephone. After more than one year time in research and experiment he was successful.

For exam in Britain it’s all made by wood and painted in red; in Brazil the animal protection organization built lots of animal shape telephone booth in the street in order to make people to understand it.

電話，縮短了地球上人與人之間的距離，給予人們無限的溫馨與慰藉。電話亭雖小，卻是世界的一個縮影。然而，隨著因特網的出現和手機的迅速普及，電話亭，這一城市最基本的公共服務設施，現在開始漸漸淡出人們的視線，在一些國家存在的日子已經屈指可數了。例如，歐盟最近正在修訂有關網絡和電子通信服務的規定，為的是加快取消公用電話亭的步伐。究其原因，主要是手機大量普及、昂貴的維護費用以及經常遭受人為破壞等因素，使公用電話的使用率逐漸下降，并且已成為傳統運營商的沉重負擔。他們認為在這種情況下，繼續保留公用電話，不啻是一種倒退。
